According to an article in the TOI
The head of a prestigious French institution meant to promote cultural ties was quietly smuggled out of India after she was arrested in Himachal Pradesh with 250 gms of charas, a crime that could have sent her to jail for 10 years.
She was after all released on bail. The article didn’t mention whether the reason of her possession of the contraband lay in her desperate need to fit in with the culture of the region.
In the meanwhile, in another Indian city, further south, more than half of those arrested for having a good time at a rave party (where according to a lawyer, no drug was found at the party venue) weren’t released on bail because they had submitted false names out of fear of being recognized.
