This is the second time I am finding both sides of an argument stupid.
First was Mayawati calling Mahatma Gandhi a nautankibaaz (fake) on the issue of Dalit sympathy. This I can understand, I do not expect better.
But this was quite amusing for people defending Gandhi :
Congress workers burnt Uttar Pradesh chief minister Mayawati’s effigy today for allegedly making derogatory remarks against Mahatma Gandhi recently.
Then was this absurd piece :
He also said the Prevention of Insult to National Honour Act, 1971, “must be amended to make a suitable provision to protect the fair name of the Father of the Nation”.
The name of the Mahatma “deserves to be legally protected,” Mahmood, also a former chairman of the National Minorities Commission, added in a statement.
Apart from the proposed posthumous legal protection, doesn’t this blatantly violate freedom of speech ? But then again, there isn’t too much of that anyway.
It is funny that self-proclaimed guardians are often the ones with least knowledge of the protectee.

This is just one of those videos you are better off seeing. You don’t want to be lacking in knowledge when it comes to such stuff.
First up, the video Iskool ke tem pe :
Next up, is the girls’ response :
It doesn’t look Bhojpuri, and the video says Nagpuri. Is another baby film industry coming up in Nagpur ?
For additional fun, glance at the comments. Be warned, they are anything but civil.
That said, I do not endorse extra-curricular activities during school hours.

This must quite be the statement of the day :
While noted directors’ including Mahesh Bhatt, Mukesh Bhatt, Mohit Suri, Anurag Basu and actors Shakti Kapoor, Aman Verma and Chitrangda Singh have expressed their full faith in Shiney, journalist turned actor Anant Narayan has a different story altogether to tell about the actor.
Aman Verma and Shakti Kapoor ? Really ?
Okay so in the list of people you don’t want to be giving you a character certificate, first would be Josef Fritzl, followed by convicted rapists, closely followed by the above duo. The others atleast have something to do with Shiney Ahuja, the two were probably asked just for the been-there-done-that (pun very much intended) view.
___
That said, the case has taken an interesting turn with a former maid alleging that the victim was in love with the accused.
His former maid has told Network 18 that the girl who’s accused Shiney of raping her was actually in love with him.
Firstly, even if this were true, the allegations could be true, and secondly, given the nature of the case, I am slightly skeptical about any piece of information.
For some reason, I seem to have a strong dislike for talkers, especially in cricket, who inevitably end up underperforming. Apart from the Aussies at the peak of their form in Test cricket, I haven’t really seen anyone live upto their spoken word.
The latest to talk is Hershelle Gibbs, who came up with quite a bizzare statement :
South African cricket team coach Mickey Arthur has said that opener Herschelle Gibbs will unveil two new shots in the final stages of the World Twenty20.
His score in the semis reads :
HH Gibbs b Shahid Afridi 5 (R) 3(M) 4(B) 1(4′s) 0(6′s) 125.00
Okay, technically, it was Gibbs who said it, but you get the idea. Do you know of any counter examples, apart from the Aussies ?
_____
Pakistan literally stormed into the finals, thanks to a brilliant, all-round performance by 18-year old Shahid Afridi. Honestly, I have seen few players who can match his level of passion. When combined with talent and luck, this can be lethal.
That said, I am happy for Pakistan who have made it to the finals second time in a row. They are most likely to meet Sri Lanka in the finals, although it could just as easily be West Indies.
Quite a first this is, but I hope Pakistan wins the Twenty20 world cup. In the simplest words, they need and want it more than anyone else. I deliberately kept deserve away from the previous sentence, as Twenty20 is anything but fair.
translated as Do you want to be a Puneite ?
I was googling for this recent Marathi movie “Mi Shivaji Raje Bhosale Boltoy” yesterday (okay I admit I was checking if there was a copy online), and the search led me to this page of WikiAnswers.
Q : Where can you download mi shivaji raje bhosale boltoy movie ?
Guess what the featured answer would be ?
A : Kadhi tari ticket kadhun film bagha…. (translated as For once, buy a ticket and watch a movie !)
I can bet any amount that the person answering it had some affiliation to Pune. Now, for readers who have gone through the FAQs page, recollect this question :
9. Why do you ‘hit on everyone’ (which is Indian English for ‘Why do you write satire about everyone’) ?
A. I come from a city where people learn satire, black humour, sarcasm and criticism before they can even speak.
I hope the whole thing makes sense now. For details, refer to Pu La’s Tumhala KoN Vhayachay ?
Or refer to Gaurav S.’s translated version in English (part 1 and part 2).
First, let us refresh the saga of Chand Mohammad :
First, he disappears.
He is back with a name change, a religion change, a new second wife.
They coochie coo on camera.
He goes missing again.
His second wife claims his family has abducted him.
His second wife attempts suicide, gets arrested, gets bail. All in a day’s work.
His second wife asks him to come clean.
He states that he loves both wives.
He is back with first wife, second wife attempts suicide, files court case and in general hogs a lot of media footage.
Updates :
He professes his love for second wife and wants to be back with her.
Second wife plays hard to get and keeps him waiting.
A cleric, meanwhile, out of the blue, makes a guest appearance and claims he can live with second wife. Yeah thanks.
At another place, a group of 100 people try unsuccessfully to kidnap our hero.

If you still don’t pity the life of an average cop, this might just change your mind.
You are a cop. You have worked hard to bribe your way through the selections, you have the added responsibility of maintaining your paunch, you are hardly allowed to rest peacefully in the police station (damn those rounds to collect hafta). Sometimes, you have to listen to a minister, sometimes to your senior and other times to your wife. Life isn’t too great. Then some random strangers come riding on a boat, and you have to face them subject to all the above constraints. Life isn’t getting better.
Then there is a high profile case in the city, a gang rape, which evokes nationwide sentiment. You have swiftly jumped onto the investigation, made arrests and just when it looks like you are going to crack this in record time and finally get some well deserved praise for your years of honest work, there is a minor stumbling block.
The city police are having a tough time getting the semen sample of Abu Bacher Shaikh, one of the three rapists. Officials said that Shaikh was taken to the hospital on Monday too for a semen sample, but he was unsuccessful. Another visit to the hospital on Tuesday also proved to be futile. According to officials, semen samples will be strong evidence against the trio for proving their crime. The samples will be matched with those found in the victim’s body during her medical check-up.
Now what do you do ?
Do check out this video of a debate that offers Rajdeep and his co-host a convenient path to exercise their vocal muscles.
The topic being : Huge donations to places of worship, a waste or not, with reference to a minister offering a crown worth Rs. 42 crores to the Balaji temple in Tirumala.
I find both sides of the argument as well as the hosts’ side, simply WTF.
With reference to recently arrested conman Ashok Jadeja, the second quote of the day comes from some guy who was duped by Jadeja.
“People thought, being a Bhantu [caste that Jadeja belongs to], Jadeja will never think of escaping with others’ money and will definitely return the money,”
Now I do want to sympathize with the ‘victims’ here, but I am unable to. In a sense, this case is similar to the hordes of victims who fall prey to godmen, where the law ends up being a cushion for gullible victims.
Previous post on godmen here.
