I don’t have much idea what kind of posts readers here appreciate, but I am guessing the bits of valuable information I provide is usually welcomed : like the time I told you about the First Gay Scene of Hindi Cinema. I assume such nuggets are hard to find elsewhere.
Keeping your interests in mind, today I present to you what I think is the first lesbian scene of Hindi cinema, from the period movie Razia Sultan. Hema Malini played Razia Sultan and Zeenat Aman (I always confuse the two) Parveen Babi, her maid. I looked around and didn’t find any literature confirming she was gay, but the director of the movie — Kamal Amrohi — was known to be a meticulous researcher. So I’ll trust him to be right. Plus it’s more fun that way.
The song sequence has obvious lesbian overtones, and intimacy is shown to the extent commercial cinema allowed those days — with a stupid hand-fan coming in the way at the worst possible time. I wonder where our beloved right-wingers were then.
Here you go. The money scene is from 1:25 to 2:12. Also, do not miss the reaction of the maids that immediately follows.

While at uncomfortable topics, I also discovered that Namak Ishq Ka from Omkara might be referring to the act of oral sex. Here, take that video too :
The lyrics were by Gulzar. If true, I won’t be surprised that Vishal Bharadwaj is so sly; but I’ll never get how he got Gulzar to write the lyrics.

I am surprised that Hema agreed to make such a scene. In any case she is definitely not comfortable with it. She is not good with sensual scenes. Zeenat Aman and Parveen Babi together could give this scene its due, Parveen being the Sultan. Considering they look so similar, it could also involve the twin thing. Actually, maybe it already does. The rower girls look very similar. But they are too young. I hope the director is not implying any pedophilia.
There also seems to be some foot fetish at 3:20. But she did not even show the ankles.

Gulzar has done such lyrics before albeit not so over the top as in Omkara and Bunty Aur Babli. Remember Dhanno Ki Aankhon Mein

Now, that I’ve started revealing my perversion,
that scene from Omkara reminds me the scene from “Ali-Baba and 40 thieves”. Zeenat Aman feeling that she is going to be raped by the bandits tries to seduce them all with her singing and dancing. It almost works, well at least it worked on me and I fell in love with her since that scene. Then the chief of the bandits stops it to prevent his men from fighting from each other.
Zeenat is then thrown into the hole with her father. Her father says: “What have they done to you? I knew they would rape you one day”. To which she replies that they did not rape her. But secretly some of us keep thinking that she was raped but did not want to tell it to her father so that he does not feel bad.
The not so hidden rape scene was in the beginning of the “Bhavani Junction” movie. The camera kept moving back and forth clearly implying the rape. I am not sure if this was the first rape scene or the first sex scene in Hindi Cinema.
In “Manoranjan”, one of the few movies where Zeenat is the main character, there was a lot of lingerie revealed and there was also a catfight. Again, I am not sure if those were the firsts in Indian Cinema.
By the way, were there erotic Indian movies, I mean outside of the mainstream Hindi cinema. Not that I want to watch it, just wandering. If there were not any that could explain why directors had a need to express themselves in such a way.

BTW, Hema Malini is obviously not the same now. She was embarrassingly chubby/fat then, now she’s far more beautiful.

It’s interesting that when I saw this movie first on tv in the afternoon, it was uncut. So imagine my disappointment when I bought the DVD years later and found the scene cut… That whole song is so obvious… it’s very sexy. In reply to an earlier post, I think Parveen was way prettier than Zeenat.
