I just saw the first episode of Coke Studio India. Watch it and download the music if you like it.
I’m afraid that if I make this post any longer, I’ll end up writing something scathing. And I don’t want to go back to the days of judging stuff. In one non-critical sentence: I did not expect what I saw; it’s not for me; I’m real happy the artists are having a blast.

Didnt like it either and sort of had expected it. I somehow hate how everything is focussed around Bollywood and its stars. Get some real singers guys ….at least based on the first episode ..this is no match for the PK version ……

Not for me either, but with that said I MIGHT give another episode a go just in case the execution gets better. The few performances I went through were exactly what I thought CS India was going to be and that’s not a good thing. Like for example, Sunidhi Chauhan – I knew it was gonna’ be that.. -sigh-

It’s not fair to shoot down mainstream/ popular singers or blame them entirely for the flaws in CS India. I thought KK’s vocals on Chadta Suraj were pretty ‘real’….but then I’m not very educated about this genre of music, so….

And I agree with you that Chadhta Suraj and Hoo were strong tracks. But even with Chadhta Suraj, there is something fundamental that makes it lesser than great. I wish I could articulate it in one sentence.
I must also mention the other side to this: Perhaps it is also something about me and the amount of Bollywood music I’ve heard that makes the music predictable for me. That isn’t the case with the other CS.
