Personally, there is nothing like “absolute freedom”. It is possible only when people are born with absolute and spectacular intelligence & conscience.

Since, we are light years away from that…so..

anyway, to each his own I guess.

@Mukta : Here they called it un-Islamic, akin to saying you aren’t a Muslim if you don’t follow their diktat. That Rahman respects religions might have something to do with conversion, but my point is that even the same clerics wouldn’t say he isn’t a fine Muslim.

About Varun Gandhi, he was wrong in marginalizing a whole community, but won’t say he should be banned from taking. He does his talking, we voice our opinions, media takes disproportional note of it, BJP’s image takes a beating among educated middle class, they lose, the cycle continues merrily [:)]

Umm btw .. religious bodies *are* for fatwas [:)]
Either you do away with all religious bodies and/or religions, or accept it.

generally converts see all religions with their inherent strengths and weaknesses.

It is the general pubic, the non converts, the firm believers, who can be gullible.

Taking this whole freedom of choice/expression/speech to a new level altogether…do you think Varun Gandhi was wrong to express his wrath during elections? He had a right to say whatever he felt like, he didn’t incite anyone to kill, just expressed his anger.

So, was he right? Did he have the freedom to so blatantly write off a religion? If yes, were the police force and EC, SC,etc. wrong in containing him?

The whole point I am trying to make is – Freedom, blah blah, is alright. But as other comments on your blog mention, there is an invisible and unstated IP. You can’t & shouldn’t cross it. Specially, not in a country like ours, where most people cannot differentiate between what to believe and what to let go.

I believe religious bodies should keep away from issuing stupid fatwas.
