The saga of Prof. Srinivas Ramchandra Siras has ended. He was found dead at his home. It is suspected that he committed suicide.

He was a respected professor at the Aligarh Muslim University, and someone who had accepted his homosexuality. Arguably for that, his privacy rights were violated when journalists filmed him having sex, then his equality rights were violated when AMU suspended him. He had temporary reprieve when the HC recently stayed the suspension, but that seems to have lasted only a few days. As Amit Varma tweeted : If it is suicide, then it is murder.

I sincerely hope his case brings the plight of homosexuals into focus.

Update : He deserves much more than an online petition.
