This headline from the drug wars in Mexico:

Mexican police chief who took the job men didn’t want is shot dead.

At first, I thought the victim was the famous girl — student and single mother — who took on the job as police chief. I’m relieved it’s not her.

While in Mexico, I was told that the Mexican government started an offensive against drug lords in 2006. In such operations, the situation deteriorates before there is even a bit of improvement (think LTTE). If that is true, things should get better soon along drug trafficking routes.

I was asked by multiple locals if I wasn’t scared by the drug wars and the travel warning issued by U.S. By then, the answer to that question didn’t matter. No?
