102 pilgrims were killed in Sabarimala in a freak accident and stampede. There is some tragic irony in the incident with most of them, if not all, visiting Sabarimala in hope of a better life.

From a statistics point of view, popular pilgrim destinations have a higher probability of stampedes (with all the over-crowding). That doesn’t seem to deter the crowds they attract. Next year, I won’t be surprised if larger crowds turn up at Sabarimala — by then, pilgrims will have either forgotten about this incident or shrugged it off as the will of god.

And it goes on ..
