The Indian government now has access to an internet kill switch. I cannot think of legitimate scenarios where an internet blackout is more useful than having internet access. I bet it will only be used by a future government to protect itself from the people.

Having said that, the Indian constitution doesn’t really grant liberty — it pays mere lip service. Hypothetical scenarios aside, the government is well within its right to implement a kill switch — which is a bigger problem.

There was some talk of a similar bill being reconsidered in the United States Congress last month, but that turned out to be FUD.
