[Anupam] Kher had reportedly said the “Constitution should be thrown out.” He made these comments during a TV show on Anna Hazare’s fast-unto-death for stringent anti-graft laws.

And so a breach of privilege notice was moved against him in the Maharashtra Assembly.

“It is because of the Constitution that each citizen gets the right of freedom of speech. However, this right cannot be allowed to be misused,” [BJP’s Sudhir] Mungantiwar said.

When do such statements stop being ironic and start being tragic?

To be fair, Mungantiwar is right when he says freedom of speech cannot be misused. That’s what our Constitution says too. But he’s wrong when he says we have freedom of speech because we don’t, not even on a very liberal scale.
