Three RTI activists belonging to Anna Hazare-led out outfit against corruption were attacked allegedly by members of a political party, seriously injuring one.

The activists – Popat Pandurang Barge (37), Vishal Chandrakant Pawar (37) and Vishal Pandurang Barge (35) – were attacked with swords, sticks and steel rods by the assailants last night around 11 pm at Phaltan taluka here, police said on Monday.

Seeing these crimes against RTI activists, you might wonder why they don’t file an RTI anonymously. Here’s the fun trivia: You cannot file an anonymous RTI. Only a citizen of India can request information and an anonymous person cannot prove citizenship. The requirement of citizenship in itself is nonsensical. How hard is it for a non-citizen to get someone to file an RTI? Most classified information doesn’t fall under the RTI act anyway.
